從讀者期待視野看林紓《黑奴吁天錄》的翻譯

【摘要】:在傳統(tǒng)的翻譯理論中,“作者中心論”和“文本中心論”占據(jù)統(tǒng)治地位,而沒有考慮到讀者的接受問題,甚至也沒考慮到在翻譯過(guò)程中,譯者依據(jù)讀者的接受來(lái)選用什么樣的翻譯策略。直到20世紀(jì)60年代,以現(xiàn)象學(xué)和解釋學(xué)為理論基礎(chǔ),以人的接受實(shí)踐為依據(jù)的接受理論誕生,人們找到了一種新的研究方法:從讀者接受的角度來(lái)考察譯文文本。姚斯的“讀者期待視野”為解釋讀者導(dǎo)向的譯文文本提供了一合理的視角。 林紓是一位著名的翻譯家!傲肿g”在中國(guó)翻譯史上是一種獨(dú)特的翻譯現(xiàn)象,備受譯界關(guān)注爭(zhēng)論,有褒有貶,但普遍認(rèn)為林譯是“不忠實(shí)”的翻譯。林紓的《黑奴吁天錄》就是這樣的一部譯作。此譯作并非體現(xiàn)作品的文學(xué)價(jià)值,而是有著特殊的翻譯目的。林紓采用了特殊的翻譯策略,其中誤譯誤寫的現(xiàn)象到處都是,從而飽受文學(xué)翻譯批評(píng)家的批評(píng)甚至指責(zé)并認(rèn)為它不是真正意義上的翻譯。然而《黑奴吁天錄》一經(jīng)出版就為中國(guó)廣大讀者所接受和歡迎。 林紓的譯作不忠實(shí)于原文,為什么還會(huì)產(chǎn)生如此大的影響呢?本文試圖采用姚斯的“讀者期待視野”來(lái)解釋這一現(xiàn)象。讀者期待視野強(qiáng)調(diào)讀者的中心地位,對(duì)翻譯的啟示是:譯者在翻譯過(guò)程中必須關(guān)照讀者的期待視野,譯文只有被讀者理解并接受,才能實(shí)現(xiàn)其翻譯目的。作者在主體部分結(jié)合林紓翻譯的特殊社會(huì)文化背景從讀者特定的“生活期待視野”和“文學(xué)期待視野”解釋了林紓《黑奴吁天錄》的特殊翻譯手段,包括他的古文策略、增補(bǔ)、刪節(jié)、漏譯甚至改寫等的運(yùn)用,以期能更客觀全面地說(shuō)明其譯作在當(dāng)時(shí)的社會(huì)歷史環(huán)境下被廣泛接受的原因,從而指出其翻譯方法的合理性與可行性。
[Abstract]:In the traditional translation theory, "author-centered" and "text-centered" occupy the dominant position, without considering the acceptance of readers, or even in the process of translation. What kind of translation strategy should the translator choose according to the reader's acceptance? Until the 1960s, the reception theory, based on phenomenology and hermeneutics, was born on the basis of human acceptance and practice, and a new research method was found: to examine the translated text from the perspective of readers' acceptance. Yao Si's Vision of readers'expectation provides a reasonable perspective for the interpretation of reader-oriented translation texts. Lin Shu is a famous translator. Forest Translation is a unique translation phenomenon in the history of Chinese translation, which has attracted much attention and criticism in translation circles, but it is generally regarded as "unfaithful" translation. Lin Shu's the annals of Heaven is such a translation. This translation does not reflect the literary value of the work, but has a special translation purpose. Lin Shu adopts a special translation strategy, in which the phenomenon of mistranslation and miswriting is everywhere, which is criticized and even criticized by literary translation critics as not true translation. However, the book was accepted and welcomed by Chinese readers as soon as it was published. Lin Shu's translation is not faithful to the original text, why would it have such a big impact? This paper attempts to explain this phenomenon by using Yao Si's "the Perspective of readers' expectation". The reader's horizon of expectation emphasizes the central position of the reader, and the enlightenment to translation is that the translator must take care of the reader's horizon of expectation in the process of translation, and only when the translation is understood and accepted by the reader can the translation aim be achieved. In the main part, according to the special social and cultural background of Lin Shu's translation, the author explains Lin Shu's special translation methods, including his ancient prose strategy and supplement, from the readers' specific "life expectation vision" and "literature expectation vision". The use of abridgement, omission and even rewriting can explain the reasons why his translation was widely accepted in the social and historical environment at that time, and point out the reasonableness and feasibility of his translation method.
