《爾雅》是中國最古老的詞典,也被視為儒家傳統(tǒng)經(jīng)典之一。然而,《爾雅》向西方的譯介卻遲遲沒有引起學(xué)界的重視。《釋器》是《爾雅》的第六卷。全文囊括的134個被釋器物及相關(guān)術(shù)語均為重要的中國傳統(tǒng)文化符號。該卷與《爾雅》其它大部分卷一樣,至今仍無英譯本。英譯《釋器》最主要的意義在于將先秦傳統(tǒng)的器物文化較為全面地介紹給英語讀者。作為《爾雅》的一卷,英譯《釋器》所遇的主要難題為原文本言簡義豐的特性。此外,《釋器》文本中涵蓋的多為西漢及以前的器物術(shù)語解釋。由于中國歷史文化的巨大變遷,大多數(shù)西方讀者對該文本所涉及的器物缺少感性認知和必要的文化背景知識,從而導(dǎo)致普通英語讀者很難理解原文本所傳達的信息。因此,為目標語讀者呈現(xiàn)《釋器》原文本中的語言語境和文化語境,確保原文本信息的有效傳達,以促進跨文化交際的成功是英譯的主要任務(wù)。在《釋器》的翻譯實踐中,通過語言符號和非語言符號之間的轉(zhuǎn)換,以確保英譯本準確傳遞原文本器物文化的翻譯研究方法,深受翻譯符號學(xué)領(lǐng)域的研究啟發(fā)。受美國符號學(xué)家查爾斯·皮爾斯符號學(xué)思想的影響,羅曼·雅各布布遜將翻譯的范疇擴大為翻譯具有三種類型,即語內(nèi)翻譯,語際翻譯和符際翻譯。這種翻譯類型劃...
