【摘要】：厄德里克在《甜菜女皇》中描述了跨越三代的三個女性印第安人物——佛勒·皮萊革,賽萊斯婷·詹姆斯和多特·阿黛爾,并展示了她們在面對時代變遷,通過形成各自的家庭關系構建了不同的身份——“部落關愛者”、“圓滑的協(xié)調者”和“堅定的能動者”。第一代印第安女性佛勒是一位部落關愛者,她接納白人和印第安血親進入其開放型家庭中。作為一位傳統(tǒng)印第安女性,佛勒堅持本土傳統(tǒng),用愛和關心對待她的瘸腿侄子羅素和白人受傷男孩卡爾。第二代印第安女性塞萊斯婷是一位圓滑的協(xié)調者,她在是否接受白人丈夫和朋友入贅其家庭的問題上猶豫不決。塞萊斯婷是印白混血,居住在白人小鎮(zhèn),身受雙重文化影響而陷入身份困境。面對卡爾和瑪麗闖進她的家庭,一方面,塞萊斯婷作為印第安后裔,她歡迎所有親朋入贅她的家庭;另一方面,她拒絕被白人父權壓制。因此,塞萊斯婷將丈夫卡爾驅逐出家,而把小姑子兼朋友瑪麗收留進家。第三代印第安女性多特是一位堅定的能動者,她將她周圍的邊緣人物連結在其網(wǎng)狀家庭中。她由母親塞萊斯婷、姑母瑪麗撫養(yǎng)長大,代理父親華萊士也給予過很大幫助,同時與親生父親卡爾存血緣關系。作為“蜘蛛女”,她連結了所有家庭關系,構建了一種印白以及混血兒和諧的相處范式。
