愛德華·摩根·福斯特(1879-1970),英國(guó)著名小說(shuō)家及評(píng)論家,于1927年發(fā)表了一系列名為《小說(shuō)面面觀》的講座,為小說(shuō)讀者和小說(shuō)家提出了小說(shuō)研究的七個(gè)方面。在這七個(gè)面中,圖式與節(jié)奏屬于小說(shuō)的美學(xué)面。福斯特解釋說(shuō)“圖式訴諸于讀者審美感,它使讀者感到小說(shuō)的整體美”(Forster,2002:386)。而節(jié)奏當(dāng)其以最簡(jiǎn)單的形式出現(xiàn)時(shí),可以定義為“重復(fù)加變化”(Forster,2002:432),使用得當(dāng)?shù)脑?節(jié)奏賦予小說(shuō)音樂的美感,同時(shí)從內(nèi)部把小說(shuō)縫合起來(lái)。圖式與節(jié)奏作為藝術(shù)技巧和批評(píng)標(biāo)準(zhǔn)有助于我們對(duì)小說(shuō)進(jìn)行比較、分析、解釋以及評(píng)價(jià)。 愛·摩·福斯特一生用藝術(shù)的筆觸共創(chuàng)作了六部小說(shuō)。然而大多數(shù)的評(píng)論對(duì)愛·摩·福斯特的小說(shuō)研究集中在對(duì)《印度之行》的詳細(xì)分析上。作為福斯特早期的兩部重要作品《看得見風(fēng)景的房間》和《霍華德莊園》并沒有引起評(píng)論家們的足夠重視,更少有文章運(yùn)用福斯特本人提出的圖式及節(jié)奏作為評(píng)論標(biāo)準(zhǔn)來(lái)對(duì)它們進(jìn)行評(píng)判與賞析。為了彌補(bǔ)這一不足,本篇論文選取了評(píng)論界關(guān)注相對(duì)較少的兩部小說(shuō)《看得見風(fēng)景的房間》和《霍華德莊園》,詳細(xì)論述了圖式和節(jié)奏在這兩篇小說(shuō)中的運(yùn)用,闡述了小說(shuō)如何在...
