托馬斯·哈代的威塞克斯系列小說代表了19世紀末和20世紀初現(xiàn)實主義小說的最高成就。哈代的藝術(shù)創(chuàng)作以塑造有象征意義的自然背景見長,他作為文學巨匠深諳小說創(chuàng)作中背景的重要作用并且認為社會背景和自然環(huán)境對人物性格的形成有重要作用。在哈代的小說中環(huán)境描寫和人物塑造相互交織,并且利用社會環(huán)境和自然環(huán)境背景來突出小說中的人物形象使人物與環(huán)境融為一體。換句話說,小說中人物活動的背景環(huán)境和人物塑造有著同等的重要作用。哈代的作品中,除了大量自然描述這個特點外,另一個顯著特點就是哈代在其小說中大量出現(xiàn)的各具特色的女性形象。在哈代威塞克斯系列小說中,苔絲是處于社會轉(zhuǎn)型期內(nèi)并且最受讀者喜愛的女性形象。哈代認為社會轉(zhuǎn)型期內(nèi)的歷史性的巨變不是進步,反而代表著失望和遺憾。尤其對與自然有緊密聯(lián)系的女性來說,工業(yè)革命和現(xiàn)代化的生活方式都導致她們逐步的脫離自然。本文利用生態(tài)女性主義文學理論,結(jié)合生態(tài)女性主義原則從男性與女性關(guān)系,人類與自然關(guān)系兩方面來揭示哈代《德伯家的苔絲》中苔絲的悲劇根源。通過用生態(tài)女性主義理論分析苔絲的悲劇根源,讀者會初步掌握19世紀末20世紀初男性通過征服自然進一步的控制女性帶來的社會上各種思想交匯...
