亨利·詹姆斯是美國(guó)最偉大的小說(shuō)家和批評(píng)家之一。他的小說(shuō)理論和實(shí)踐為小說(shuō)的發(fā)展做出了很大貢獻(xiàn)。伊莎貝爾·阿徹爾是《貴婦畫(huà)像》的女主角�！顿F婦畫(huà)像》被公認(rèn)為詹姆斯的代表作之一。這篇論文旨在研究亨利·詹姆斯是怎樣創(chuàng)作出伊莎貝爾·阿徹爾這個(gè)人物的。無(wú)疑,這個(gè)人物具有復(fù)雜而矛盾的性格。伊莎貝爾的塑造首先歸因于詹姆斯的個(gè)人經(jīng)歷,特別是他的家庭和他所接受的教育、他的童年經(jīng)歷、在歐洲的經(jīng)歷以及他與表妹米妮·坦普爾的特殊關(guān)系。其次,伊莎貝爾復(fù)雜而又矛盾的性格也源于詹姆斯復(fù)雜的思想。詹姆斯復(fù)雜的思想則來(lái)自于他所受到的各種思潮的影響,特別是超驗(yàn)主義、傳統(tǒng)觀念和實(shí)用主義的影響。因此,方面,伊莎貝爾像超驗(yàn)主義者那樣熱愛(ài)自由和獨(dú)立,像實(shí)用主義者那樣注重生活和經(jīng)驗(yàn)以及智性和意識(shí)；另一方面,她又嚴(yán)格遵守傳統(tǒng)的道德觀和婚姻觀。這些觀念限制她的自由和獨(dú)立,減少她盡可能多地去探索生活和增長(zhǎng)經(jīng)驗(yàn)的機(jī)會(huì)。論文分為四章。第一章分析詹姆斯特殊的經(jīng)歷對(duì)伊莎貝爾的性格和經(jīng)歷的影響,包括詹姆斯的家庭和他所接受的教育、他的童年經(jīng)歷、在歐洲的經(jīng)歷以及他的表妹米妮·坦普爾一伊莎貝爾的原型。第二章探究超驗(yàn)主義對(duì)詹姆斯的影響,詹姆斯對(duì)超驗(yàn)主義的態(tài)...
