A.S.拜厄特對(duì)《占有》與《天使與昆蟲(chóng)》中維多利亞時(shí)代的人文主義再現(xiàn)

【摘要】:A.S.拜厄特對(duì)重述歷史情有獨(dú)鐘,其中尤以維多利亞歷史最為顯著。她的成名作《占有》以及另一部小說(shuō)《天使與昆蟲(chóng)》將拜厄特的這一情結(jié)表露無(wú)遺。本文在前人研究的基礎(chǔ)上嘗試從琳達(dá)·哈欽的歷史編撰體元小說(shuō)理論出發(fā),結(jié)合拜厄特本人的專著《論歷史與故事》和《心靈的激情》,著眼于作者在《占有》和《天使與昆蟲(chóng)》兩部小說(shuō)中對(duì)維多利亞社會(huì)極富人文關(guān)懷的重構(gòu)。 本文嘗試分三章論述拜厄特對(duì)維多利亞歷史的重構(gòu)。第一章“信仰的再現(xiàn):宗教和科學(xué)”重點(diǎn)闡述十九世紀(jì)《物種起源》的發(fā)表所導(dǎo)致的宗教與科學(xué)的碰撞。當(dāng)宗教受到科學(xué)的猛烈撞擊時(shí),拜厄特塑造了分別以艾什,威廉、哈羅德以及女性靈媒為代表的知識(shí)分子、科學(xué)家、虔誠(chéng)信徒以及靈媒論者,聚焦于人物自身的生存境遇和思想斗爭(zhēng),以維多利亞的語(yǔ)言和方式深刻展現(xiàn)面對(duì)信仰危機(jī)時(shí)不同人物各自的思想掙扎和信仰選擇。 第二章“女性形象的重塑:魔鬼與天使”著眼于作者所塑造的分別以拉莫特、艾米莉·丁尼生以及艾倫為代表的女性作家、寡婦以及“家中天使”等維多利亞女性角色,從各角色的學(xué)識(shí)、生活經(jīng)驗(yàn)和個(gè)體價(jià)值觀等方面出發(fā),結(jié)合人物自身的成長(zhǎng)環(huán)境、經(jīng)濟(jì)境遇以及情感糾葛等來(lái)分析拜厄特如何再現(xiàn)維多利亞女性人物各自不同的生存理念和最終生活方式的選擇,全面而直觀地刻畫(huà)維多利亞時(shí)期的“魔鬼”亦或“天使”等各類女性,為讀者描繪了一幅維多利亞女性全景圖。 第三章“神話的重述:模仿與創(chuàng)作”從神話改編的角度重點(diǎn)探討小說(shuō)中以拉莫特和麥蒂為代表的維多利亞女性作家對(duì)自己改編神話的態(tài)度及其作品,以人文主義的關(guān)懷聚焦于人物自身,并結(jié)合當(dāng)時(shí)的社會(huì)環(huán)境和兩位女性作家自身的價(jià)值追求,從而展現(xiàn)作者拜厄特對(duì)當(dāng)時(shí)女性作家從“模仿”到意圖解構(gòu)傳統(tǒng)再到“創(chuàng)作”這一過(guò)程的描述,再現(xiàn)了維多利亞時(shí)期的女性作家在創(chuàng)作時(shí)“被侵入”的窘境以及她們通過(guò)“模仿”來(lái)表達(dá)自我卻反抗傳統(tǒng)未果的復(fù)雜情緒。 總之,無(wú)論是信仰危機(jī)的再現(xiàn)、女性形象的重述還是神話寓言的改編,拜厄特都極力使用維多利亞時(shí)期的語(yǔ)言和方式從維多利亞人物自身的角度出發(fā)以更“真實(shí)”地展現(xiàn)這段富有爭(zhēng)議的歷史。本論文著眼于人物自身的價(jià)值觀、個(gè)體尊嚴(yán)以及自我實(shí)現(xiàn)的追求等,分別從信仰危機(jī)、女性生存選擇以及解構(gòu)傳統(tǒng)三個(gè)方面分三章剖析拜厄特對(duì)維多利亞歷史的重構(gòu),展現(xiàn)作者對(duì)維多利亞不同人物的同情,并通過(guò)敘述形式和重構(gòu)策略等歷史編撰體元小說(shuō)的后現(xiàn)代技法構(gòu)筑了一個(gè)更加飽滿、更加人性的社會(huì),體現(xiàn)了作者對(duì)維多利亞這一特殊時(shí)期的人文關(guān)懷。
[Abstract]:A.S. Byatt has a special fondness for restatement of history, especially Victorian history. Her famous book, possession, and another novel, Angels and insects, reveal the complex of Byatt. On the basis of previous studies, this paper attempts to start with Linda Harchin's theory of historical compilation and metafiction. In combination with Byatt's monograph on History and Story and the Passion of the mind, this paper focuses on the reconstruction of the author's humanistic concern for Victorian society in two novels, possession and Angels and insects. This paper attempts to discuss the reconstruction of Victorian history by Byatt in three chapters. Chapter one, "Reproduction of Faith: religion and Science", focuses on the collision between religion and science caused by the publication of the Origin of species in the nineteenth century. When religion was hit hard by science, Byatt shaped intellectuals, scientists, devout believers and mediationists, represented by Asher, William, Harold, and the female psychic, respectively. Focusing on the living conditions and ideological struggles of the characters themselves, Victorian language and style are used to profoundly show the different characters' ideological struggles and religious choices in the face of the crisis of faith. Chapter two, "remolding the female Image: the Devil and the Angel", focuses on the female writers represented by Lamote, Emily Tennyson and Alan, widows and Victorian female characters such as the Angel of the Family. Starting from the learning, life experience and individual values of each role, and combining the growth environment of the characters themselves, Economic circumstances and emotional entanglements are used to analyze how Byatt reproduces the Victorian female characters' different ideas of survival and choices of their final way of life. Comprehensively and intuitively depicts all kinds of women in Victorian period, such as devil or angel, and gives readers a panorama of Victorian women. Chapter three, "restatement of mythology: imitation and creation", focuses on the attitude of Victorian female writers, represented by Ramote and McGrady, to their own mythological adaptation and their works from the perspective of mythological adaptation. Focusing on the characters themselves with humanistic care, and combining the social environment of the time and the value pursuit of the two female writers themselves, This shows the author's description of the process from "imitation" to intention deconstruction of tradition to "creation" by female writers at that time. It reappears the dilemma of Victorian women writers who were "invaded" in their works and their complex feelings of expressing themselves through imitation but resisting tradition and failure. In a word, whether it is the reappearance of the faith crisis, the restatement of the female image or the adaptation of the mythical fable, Byatt tries to use Victorian language and methods to show the controversial history from the Victorian characters' own point of view. This paper focuses on the values of the characters, individual dignity and the pursuit of self-realization, respectively, from the crisis of faith, the choice of women's survival and the deconstruction of tradition, this paper analyzes Byatt's reconstruction of Victorian history in three chapters. It shows the author's sympathy for different Victorian characters, and constructs a fuller and more human society through the post-modern techniques of historical compiling style and metafiction, such as narrative form and reconstruction strategy. It reflects the author's humanistic concern for Victoria in this special period.
