哈金《等待》中的東方主義建構

【摘要】:《等待》是哈金創(chuàng)作生涯的第二部長篇小說,也是他的代表作之一。本書在1999年獲得了美國國家圖書獎,也為哈金帶來了巨大的聲譽。作為美國少數族裔的一員,哈金用自己的英語寫作贏得了主流讀者的青睞和文學界的關注,但與此同時在中國學術界也引起了不少爭議。 本篇論文通過文本分析,試圖揭示哈金作品中的東方主義建構。這種建構揭示了哈金寫作的真實目的,那就是迎合西方對東方刻板形象的建構。哈金的寫作與西方對東方的習慣思維是一致的,這也就是他的作品為什么會呈現出東方主義色彩的根源。全文共分為六章。 第一章主要介紹了哈金的個人生平,他在美國文學界的地位以及《等待》故事情節(jié)和國內外文獻綜述。第二章介紹了東方主義理論,主要涉及理論淵源,東方主義內容闡釋和東方主義現狀以及華裔文學中的東方主義呈現:一是對“他者”男性的“閹割“;二是對中華文化的“販賣”、貶損和歪曲。 第三章,主要分析文本中“孔林形象的‘他者’東方主義建構”。對“他者”的東方主義建構主要從三方面展開:女性化的“他者”,邊緣化的“他者”以及閹割了的“他者”!八摺钡臇|方主義建構確立了西方與東方在性別與權力,種族與權力方面的不對等關系。 第四章分析了哈金在主流文化中對中國女性形象的東方主義建構,主要表現在女主人公淑玉那雙不合時代的“三寸金蓮”。哈金對小腳的數次描寫,也同樣揭示了哈金通過迎合西方主流讀者對東方異域風情的想象使自己為主流文化所接受。 第五章分析了哈金對中國東方主義色彩的一種建構。這種建構主要體現在兩個方面:一是共產主義體制下社會主義中國的圖景;二是西方知識體系下的傳統(tǒng)中國。這兩方面均展示了哈金《等待》中西方對東方(社會主義中國)的意識形態(tài)偏見。 基于以上分析,本論文說明哈金在美國文學界所獲成功并非偶然。對于哈金作品的接受,我們必須持辯證態(tài)度,既要看到哈金作為知識分子主動介入社會,揭示社會陰暗的積極一面,但也不能忽視作者因其流散身份所處的文化語境有意詆毀中國文化的消極態(tài)度。我們應該抱著“取其精華去其糟粕”態(tài)度對文學作品進行消化吸收。
[Abstract]:Waiting is the second novel in Harkin's writing career and one of his masterpieces. The book won the National Book Award in 1999, and also earned Harkin a huge reputation. As a member of ethnic minorities in the United States, Harkin has won the attention of mainstream readers and literary circles with his English writing, but at the same time, it has aroused a lot of controversy in Chinese academic circles. Through text analysis, this thesis tries to reveal the orientalism construction in Harkin's works. This kind of construction reveals the real purpose of Harkin's writing, that is, catering to the construction of the western stereotyped image of the East. Harkin's writing is consistent with the western habit of thinking about the East, which is why his works take on orientalism. The full text is divided into six chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces Harkin's personal life, his position in American literary circles, the story plot of waiting and the literature review at home and abroad. The second chapter introduces the orientalism theory, mainly involves the orientalism theory origin, the orientalism content explanation and the orientalism present situation as well as the orientalism in the Chinese Chinese literature: first, the "castration" to the "other" male; Second, the "trafficking" of Chinese culture is derogatory and distorted. The third chapter mainly analyzes the orientalism construction of Kong Lin's image. The construction of Orientalism is mainly from three aspects: the feminized "other", the marginalized "other" and the castrated "other". The Orientalism of the other establishes the unequal relationship between the West and the East in terms of gender and power, race and power. The fourth chapter analyzes the oriental construction of Hajin's image of Chinese women in mainstream culture, which is mainly manifested in the female protagonist Shuyu's anachronistic "three inch golden lotus". Harkin's depiction of small feet also reveals that Harkin has made himself accepted by mainstream culture by pandering to the Western mainstream readers' imagination of oriental exotic customs. Chapter five analyzes a kind of construction of Chinese orientalism by Harkin. This construction is mainly reflected in two aspects: first, the prospect of socialist China under the communist system; secondly, the traditional China under the western knowledge system. Both show Harkin's ideological bias against the East (Socialist China). Based on the above analysis, this thesis shows that Harkin's success in American literature is not accidental. We must take a dialectical attitude towards the acceptance of Harkin's works. We should not only see that Harkin, as an intellectual, has actively intervened in society and revealed the dark and positive side of society. However, the author's negative attitude of slandering Chinese culture can not be ignored because of his cultural context. We should digest and absorb literary works with the attitude of "take its essence away from its dross".
