【摘要】：裨治文編著的A Chinese Chrestomathy in the Canton Dialect(《廣東方言撮要》),是美國傳教士出版的第一部漢(粵音)—英雙語教材,其中九篇與中國古代科學(xué)技術(shù)相關(guān),有別于其他傳教士所編著的字典或漢語學(xué)習(xí)書籍,頗具特色與文獻價值。文章概述了與數(shù)學(xué)相關(guān)篇章的結(jié)構(gòu),并分析其中的內(nèi)容來源,指出內(nèi)容主要引自《三字經(jīng)訓(xùn)詁》《增刪算法統(tǒng)宗》《方田通法補例》《數(shù)理精蘊》本之《幾何原本》《圜天圖說》等,以及部分自編題目;通過英文翻譯和注釋的分析,揭示出翻譯錯誤緣由,及其對中國數(shù)學(xué)的認(rèn)識,中西度量衡的比較,以及一些與當(dāng)時貿(mào)易有關(guān)的議題。
[Abstract]:A Chinese Chrestomathy in the Canton Dialect(, an introduction to Guangdong dialect, is the first Chinese-English bilingual textbook published by American missionaries, nine of which are related to ancient Chinese science and technology. Different from the dictionaries or Chinese learning books compiled by other missionaries, they are characteristic and valuable. This paper summarizes the structure of the chapters related to mathematics, and analyzes the source of the contents. It is pointed out that the contents are mainly quoted from the "three characters exegesis" > "add and delete the algorithm Tongzong" > "Fangtian Tongmeng" > "Mathematical essence", "Geometry original" > "Waitian Tutu Theory", and so on. Through the analysis of English translation and annotations, this paper reveals the causes of translation errors, their understanding of Chinese mathematics, the comparison between Chinese and Western weights and measures, and some issues related to trade at that time.
