【摘要】：《紅樓夢(mèng)》是中國(guó)古典文學(xué)的瑰寶，它已經(jīng)被翻譯成多國(guó)文字。迄今為止，《紅樓夢(mèng)》的英譯本中最有影響的兩個(gè)全譯本是產(chǎn)生于上世紀(jì)七十年代，，由楊憲益、戴乃迭夫婦合譯的A Dream of Red Mansions和大衛(wèi)·霍克斯與約翰·閔福德翻譯的The Story of the Stone。此后出現(xiàn)了眾多對(duì)這兩個(gè)譯本孰優(yōu)孰劣的評(píng)論和比較。本文從譯者主體性的角度出發(fā)，對(duì)比兩個(gè)譯本的差異，并試圖分析和探討造成兩個(gè)譯本差異的背后原因。 譯者作為翻譯的主體，在翻譯理論界長(zhǎng)期遭到忽視。上世紀(jì)七十年代起，翻譯理論界出現(xiàn)了翻譯研究的“文化轉(zhuǎn)向”，這一研究新方向極大地開(kāi)拓了翻譯研究的視野，從而使翻譯主體的研究也得到了應(yīng)有的重視。受此影響，我們認(rèn)為文學(xué)翻譯批評(píng)的研究也不應(yīng)局促于單純比較譯文的優(yōu)劣或是對(duì)譯本的錯(cuò)誤糾正，而是應(yīng)該將重點(diǎn)深入到更為廣闊的社會(huì)和文化背景中，強(qiáng)調(diào)翻譯主體的能動(dòng)作用，探討在不同社會(huì)文化、翻譯背景下譯者的主體性及其在文學(xué)翻譯中的應(yīng)用和對(duì)翻譯過(guò)程的影響。 本文首先對(duì)傳統(tǒng)翻譯觀進(jìn)行理論回顧，提出傳統(tǒng)翻譯理論對(duì)譯者的態(tài)度和對(duì)譯者地位的忽視。然后簡(jiǎn)單介紹翻譯研究的“文化轉(zhuǎn)向”，以及在這種轉(zhuǎn)向的影響下翻譯界對(duì)譯者的地位以及譯者主體性的認(rèn)識(shí)。譯者的主觀能動(dòng)性在翻譯過(guò)程中起著舉足輕重的作用。它可以體現(xiàn)在很多方面，如譯者的翻譯觀念及文化立場(chǎng)、翻譯的目的、譯者的意識(shí)形態(tài)和審美情趣等，這些都將影響譯者采取怎樣的翻譯策略。 本文通過(guò)對(duì)比楊譯本和霍譯本對(duì)書(shū)名、人物的姓名、書(shū)中大量文化詞的不同翻譯以及對(duì)序言、附錄、注釋等的不同處理，分析了它們的不同之處：楊譯本更忠實(shí)于原文，注重譯文的忠實(shí)性和充分性，翻譯方法以直譯為主，在翻譯策略上傾向于異化；霍譯本側(cè)重于譯本的可接受性，更關(guān)注其藝術(shù)性和娛樂(lè)性，翻譯方法以意譯為主，在翻譯策略上傾向于歸化。接著本文詳細(xì)分析了兩譯本的譯者各自的文化立場(chǎng)、翻譯目的及意向讀者、贊助人、以及譯本所處的歷史和政治背景，探討造成兩譯本差異的原因。
