悲劇以其獨有的震撼力在世界文學史上占有重要地位，公元前五世紀的希臘是悲劇的發(fā)源地，產生了一些偉大的作品。莎士比亞時代的悲劇作品在文學史上也有極其重要的地位。但后來傳統(tǒng)意義上的悲劇作品和悲劇人物不多見了。然而英國作家托馬斯哈-代的悲劇小說以其獨特的魅力在十九世紀末頁英國文學中占有一席之地�？ㄋ固貥蚴虚L雖不是其最杰出的作品，卻典型反映了哈代人類無法掌握自己命運的悲劇主題，主人公亨查德也是哈代創(chuàng)作的最具特色的悲劇人物之一。 亨查德的悲劇與傳統(tǒng)的悲劇人物有許多相似之處：自身性格缺陷使其犯下大錯，再加上惡勢力的打擊和命運的作弄，導致他們事業(yè)失敗，名譽受損，最終以受難、死亡或失敗而告終。但是由于特定的歷史條件，亨查德的遭遇是人物性格和社會發(fā)展的必然性交錯起作用的結果。性格是導致其悲劇的原因之一，也是內在因素，外在因素對其命運的影響也不容忽視。當時的英國正處于政治經濟大變革的前夕，亨查德對這一過度時期的不適應是導致其失敗的重要原因。 以往我國對文學作品的評論突出的是階級社會矛盾，西方評論則輕視社會影響而強調人物性格的沖突。本篇嘗試運用分析對比手法，既從人物性格及人物關系方面尋找主人公悲劇...
