【摘要】:加拿大長(zhǎng)老會(huì)來華傳教士季理斐將英國(guó)女作家格鐵夫人(Mrs.Margaret S.Gatty,1809-1837)的《自然寓言集》(Parables from Nature)的第二集譯為漢語,題為《和聲鳴盛》。季理斐的譯文在保留寓言故事的生動(dòng)性的同時(shí),也適時(shí)傳達(dá)了基督教教義。來華傳教士這個(gè)翻譯群體具有獨(dú)特性,翻譯外文書籍時(shí)與原文作者語言系統(tǒng)文化背景相通,理解較為貼切;又有著豐富的中國(guó)文化積累和中國(guó)助手的幫助,能夠得心應(yīng)手地進(jìn)行翻譯活動(dòng)。為了實(shí)現(xiàn)傳播教義的目的,他們不斷尋求出路,實(shí)現(xiàn)基督教與中國(guó)文化的交融,減少隔閡與排斥。本文主要以《和聲鳴盛》及其原文為主體,探究傳教士在譯介西方作品時(shí)翻譯與解讀所采取的方式方法,一方面是將外文翻譯為漢語時(shí)內(nèi)容上的增、刪、改;另一方面是將基督教教義與中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)文化的融合,進(jìn)行互文性的解讀和闡釋。本文第一部分通過具體分析《和聲鳴盛》譯文與原文的不同之處,包括增加、刪減以及改動(dòng)的部分,探究產(chǎn)生這些不同之處的原因。作者在翻譯中盡可能地保持文章原貌,盡量避免“失真”。然而,翻譯活動(dòng)畢竟跨越了不同的地理文化環(huán)境,翻譯者的不同文化修養(yǎng)與知識(shí)儲(chǔ)備使得譯文與原文有所出入。第二部分細(xì)致分析譯文與中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)文學(xué)、文化的關(guān)聯(lián),以及基督教思想與中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)文化的交織融合。為了實(shí)現(xiàn)傳教目的,譯者需要在中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)文化中尋找契合點(diǎn),支持自己的宗教思想,符合中國(guó)民眾的傳統(tǒng)思維與接受心理。第三部分總結(jié)季理斐作為傳教士在向中國(guó)譯介西方文學(xué)作品時(shí)采取的諸多嘗試與努力,迎合中國(guó)讀者文化習(xí)慣,對(duì)中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)文化加以理解與運(yùn)用,進(jìn)而得到傳教士文化傳播的總體路徑方向。
