基于讀者接受的《孟子》英譯與傳播研究

【摘要】:《孟子》是我國儒家傳統(tǒng)經(jīng)典,是中華文化的瑰寶,是中國傳統(tǒng)文化的重要組成部分,被列入“四書”!睹献印凡粌H是文學經(jīng)典,也是哲學巨著,具有豐富的文學表現(xiàn)形式和哲學思想內涵!睹献印返奈幕退枷雰r值決定了該作在世界文化交流中的重要地位。有文獻記載的《孟子》英譯已有三百多年的歷史,現(xiàn)有英譯本品種豐富、數(shù)量繁多、形式多樣。但本研究讀者問卷調查和網(wǎng)絡銷售與評價統(tǒng)計卻發(fā)現(xiàn),目的語讀者對《孟子》英譯本的接受不容樂觀,海外傳播效果十分有限。讀者接受理論重視作者、作品和讀者之間的關系,強調讀者對作品理解和接受的意義,肯定讀者在閱讀中的主動地位,認為讀者與譯作有著復雜的關聯(lián),讀者應參與到譯作的生產(chǎn)過程。在中國文化‘走出去’的歷史背景下,目的語讀者的接受成為檢驗譯本成功與否的重要標準之一,讀者接受被賦予了新的現(xiàn)實意義。如何化解當前《孟子》譯本層出不窮、譯本極為豐富但傳播效果卻不甚理想的矛盾,需要從過去的“作者中心論”轉為“讀者中心論”。基于以上矛盾,本研究擬運用讀者接受理論,從讀者對譯本接受的視角出發(fā),尋找《孟子》英譯與傳播的有效范式,以期為當前和今后的中國文化典籍對外傳播提供可操作性的參考。本研究將主要集中解決五個問題:國內外《孟子》英譯及《孟子》英譯研究的歷史與現(xiàn)狀;外國讀者對現(xiàn)有《孟子》譯本的接受情況;廣受讀者歡迎的代表性《孟子》英譯本的特征;基于讀者接受的《孟子》英譯范式的建構;基于讀者接受的《孟子》英譯本的對外傳播。本文研究的重點是分析與總結《孟子》英譯的成功經(jīng)驗模式,歸納能被讀者接受的《孟子》英譯與傳播范式。本文研究發(fā)現(xiàn),影響目的語讀者對譯本接受的因素眾多,既有形式也有內容,既有語言也有結構,甚至有譯本的定價等,但對讀者影響最大的是譯本的可讀性和實用性。因此,提高《孟子》譯本語言和內容的可讀性、增強譯本內容的實用性應成為提高讀者接受的整體指導。翻譯與傳播脫節(jié)是影響《孟子》對外傳播的重要因素之一,應增強以傳播為目的的《孟子》英譯以及英譯為傳播服務的理念。翻譯是傳播的前提,傳播是翻譯的延續(xù),讀者是翻譯與傳播的受眾,三者相互關聯(lián),互為條件、彼此影響。強調目的語讀者對譯作的接受,并以此推進《孟子》的翻譯和傳播,是當前形勢下包括《孟子》在內的中國文化典籍翻譯與傳播的有效范式。
[Abstract]:Mencius is a traditional classic of Confucianism, a treasure of Chinese culture, an important part of Chinese traditional culture, and is included in the "four Books." Mencius is not only a literary classic, but also a masterpiece of philosophy. The cultural and ideological values of Mencius determine its important position in the world cultural exchange. The English translation of Mencius has a history of more than 300 years. However, the questionnaire survey and online sales and evaluation statistics show that the target language readers' acceptance of the English version of Mencius is not optimistic and the effect of overseas communication is very limited. The reader-acceptance theory emphasizes the relationship between the author, the work and the reader, emphasizes the significance of the reader's understanding and acceptance of the work, affirms the reader's active position in reading, and considers that the reader has a complicated relationship with the translation. Readers should participate in the production process of the translated works. In the historical background of Chinese culture "going out", the acceptance of target language readers becomes one of the important criteria to test the success of the translation, and readers' acceptance has been given new practical significance. How to resolve the contradiction that the current version of Mencius emerges in endlessly, which is very rich in translation but not very good in the communication effect, needs to change from the "author-centered theory" to the "reader-centered theory" in the past. Based on the above contradictions, the present study intends to apply the reader-acceptance theory to seek an effective paradigm for the translation and dissemination of Mencius from the perspective of the reader's acceptance of the translation. In order to provide an operational reference for the current and future dissemination of Chinese cultural classics. This study will focus on five problems: the history and current situation of the studies on the translation of Mencius and Mencius at home and abroad, the acceptance of the existing versions of Mencius by foreign readers; The characteristics of the representative English translation of Mencius, the construction of the English translation paradigm based on the reader-accepted Mencius, and the dissemination of the English version of Mencius accepted by the readers. The focus of this study is to analyze and summarize the successful models of the translation of Mencius into English, and to summarize the accepted paradigm of translation and communication of Mencius. The present study finds that there are many factors affecting the readers' acceptance of the target text, both in form and content, in both language and structure, and even in the pricing of the translation. However, the readability and practicality of the translation are the most important factors affecting the readers. Therefore, improving the readability of the language and content of Mencius and enhancing the practicability of the content of the translation should be the overall guidance to enhance the readers' acceptance. The disconnection between translation and communication is one of the important factors affecting the communication of Mencius. Translation is the premise of communication, communication is the continuation of translation, and the reader is the audience of translation and communication. It is an effective paradigm for the translation and dissemination of Chinese cultural classics, including Mencius, to emphasize the target readers' acceptance of the translated works and to promote the translation and dissemination of Mencius.
