【摘要】：論文以美國華裔作家湯亭亭的作品《中國佬》為文本,在當(dāng)時(shí)種族歧視的社會(huì)歷史語境中,探討了以伯公和阿公為代表的契約華工抗?fàn)幒?越界"的行為與策略。以伯公為代表的夏威夷種植園契約華工以"搗蛋鬼"的形象,通過制造麻煩來拒絕被馴化,逾越"不許說話"的戒律;以阿公為代表的鐵路契約華工,則通過罷工來爭取和白人同工同酬的待遇。他們的"越界"行為既是對(duì)華工主體性的宣示,也是對(duì)現(xiàn)有契約華工歷史話語的一種反撥。正是在不停地跨越或隱或明的邊界的過程中,華人才逐步擴(kuò)展自己在海外的生存空間,改變主流社會(huì)對(duì)華人的刻板印象。
[Abstract]:Based on the work of Chinese American writer Hong Ting-ting, this paper discusses the behavior and strategy of contract Chinese workers' struggle and "crossing the line" represented by Grandpa and Grandpa in the social and historical context of racial discrimination at that time. The Hawaiian plantation contract Chinese workers, represented by Grandpa, refused to be domesticated by creating trouble and exceeded the precepts of "no talking", while the railway contract Chinese workers represented by Grandpa fought for equal pay for equal work with whites through strikes. Their behavior of "crossing the boundary" is not only a declaration of the subjectivity of Chinese workers, but also a backwash to the historical discourse of the existing contract Chinese workers. It is in the process of constantly crossing or hidden or clear boundaries that the Chinese gradually expand their living space abroad and change the stereotypical impression of the mainstream society on the Chinese.
