[Abstract]:A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that overweight or obesity speeds up the aging process of the liver. The findings help explain the association between obesity and diseases such as liver cancer and insulin resistance. Steve Howath, professor of human genetics and biostatistics at the School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles, and colleagues analyzed 1190 human tissue samples, including more than 130 liver tissues. The results showed that the body mass index (BMI, height to weight ratio) increased by 10 units per unit, "said the liver."
