[Abstract]:The classification of semen diluents is well known. In pig industry semen diluents can be divided into long neutralizing and short effect diluent protectants according to practical and commercial reasons. However, the classification does not seem to be an ideal criterion for boar stations to select the best diluents. The reason is that the shelf life may be relative due to the existence of other factors that have a direct impact on the diluent's protective capacity. The sperm survival rate of diluted semen may be affected by boar effect and other key links (such as semen processing, treatment, transportation, preservation and application), thus affecting the reproductive performance of sows.
