從國內(nèi)外幾十年來對美國女作家麥卡勒斯小說研究批評中,“精神隔離”的主題成為對麥卡勒斯的評論的關(guān)鍵詞,這樣不僅使麥卡勒斯的作品創(chuàng)作主題顯得單一,而且作品脫離了特定的歷史文化語境,削弱了小說的價(jià)值。不同時期中,研究麥卡勒斯作品的研究者都嘗試著突破“新批評”對麥卡勒斯批評的局限,在不同的意識形態(tài)領(lǐng)域?qū)窀綦x的主題進(jìn)行創(chuàng)新性、探索性的解讀。 酷兒理論開拓麥卡勒斯小說研究的事業(yè),具有突破性的意義。洛里·J.肯沙夫特在“同性愛與人際關(guān)系:從‘累斯臏’的角度解讀卡森·麥卡勒斯”的文章中,嘗試從酷兒文化背景下闡釋麥卡勒斯“精神隔離”主題。她指出同性愛是麥卡勒斯小說中反復(fù)出現(xiàn)的一個主題,她認(rèn)為,應(yīng)該借助同性戀的視覺重新審視麥卡勒斯的小說世界。因此,麥卡勒斯的主題有了新的解讀:禁區(qū)中的愛使個體比常人更深切地體會到孤獨(dú)和隔絕;作者對青少年題材的偏好也得到了相應(yīng)的解釋:內(nèi)化的同性戀恐懼使她不能直接表現(xiàn)成年女子的同性愛欲望,而是選擇少女的性困惑來表達(dá)同性戀者對異性戀文化反抗和順從的矛盾心理;而且作品的怪誕手法也由此產(chǎn)生了新的意義:在一個視同性戀為殘疾的文化語境之中,怪誕恰當(dāng)?shù)姆从沉诉吘壢烁艚^的生存狀態(tài)。 本文...
