【摘要】：《尤利西斯》被公認(rèn)為西方文學(xué)最具影響力的作品之一,自其問世以來,對于這部意識流巨著的分析和研究不勝枚舉。但喬伊斯在該作品中采用了前所未有的“實(shí)驗(yàn)性文字形式”,這為以傳統(tǒng)語言學(xué)為基礎(chǔ)的傳統(tǒng)文體學(xué)研究造成了障礙。因此,為數(shù)眾多的文學(xué)研究所得出的結(jié)論迫切地需要語言層面上的證據(jù)支持。 與此同時(shí),以系統(tǒng)功能語法為主要理論基礎(chǔ)的功能文體學(xué)已發(fā)展成為一門影響較為廣泛的文體學(xué)科,其中的及物性系統(tǒng)和評價(jià)系統(tǒng)已被前人研究證明對于文學(xué)文體具有獨(dú)到的解釋力。及物性系統(tǒng)將研究重心放在對小句結(jié)構(gòu)的客觀研究上,而評價(jià)系統(tǒng)則更為關(guān)注話語使用者的主觀態(tài)度,因此本文認(rèn)為及物性分析和評價(jià)系統(tǒng)中的態(tài)度子系統(tǒng)分析的結(jié)合可為《尤利西斯》中的角色塑造提供更為全面系統(tǒng)的視角。本文借助上述兩種理論工具,采用定性和定量分析相結(jié)合的分析方法對《尤利西斯》第三章中主人公角色塑造進(jìn)行功能文體學(xué)分析,最終得以證明功能文體學(xué)是闡釋和研究意識流小說文體的有效理論工具。 本文共分為五章。第一章“導(dǎo)論”部分介紹了本文的研究背景、研究意義等基礎(chǔ)信息之后,第二章“文獻(xiàn)綜述”回顧了前人對功能文體學(xué)和《尤利西斯》的研究。作為功能文體學(xué)的理論基礎(chǔ),系統(tǒng)功能語法的基本框架在第三章中得以呈現(xiàn),兩種廣泛應(yīng)用于文學(xué)文本研究的理論及物性系統(tǒng)和評價(jià)系統(tǒng)為本章的介紹重點(diǎn)。第四章“《尤利西斯》第三章中角色塑造的功能文體學(xué)分析”首先將《尤利西斯》第三章中的話語分為了兩種：如實(shí)描寫主人公斯蒂芬的各種主觀內(nèi)心活動(dòng)的內(nèi)心獨(dú)白話語,以及在不同主題的內(nèi)心獨(dú)白中起過渡作用的現(xiàn)實(shí)事件話語。隨后通過對現(xiàn)實(shí)事件話語及物性分析,本文發(fā)現(xiàn),與其他角色相對比,斯蒂芬直接充當(dāng)及物物質(zhì)小句動(dòng)作者的可能性較低,其發(fā)出的動(dòng)作對周遭事物缺乏影響力,這與喬學(xué)評論界對斯蒂芬角色形象的一貫認(rèn)識相吻合。接著,根據(jù)評價(jià)理論的思想,本文將不同主題內(nèi)心獨(dú)白話語中的態(tài)度資源分為正面和負(fù)面態(tài)度資源,經(jīng)過定量和定性相結(jié)合的分析手段,闡釋了斯蒂芬對不同事物所采取的不同態(tài)度,例如對藝術(shù)和過往的欣賞,對現(xiàn)處環(huán)境的不滿以及對女性和自身所抱有的模糊態(tài)度等等。這些發(fā)現(xiàn)為慣有的文學(xué)評論提供了語言層面的證據(jù)支持。最后一章“結(jié)語”總結(jié)了全文的主要發(fā)現(xiàn)并展望了將來的研究發(fā)展方向。
