【摘要】：《世說新語》是魏晉南北朝時期志人小說的代表作,記載了漢末到東晉三百年間的軼事和言論,它既有極高的文學(xué)價值和欣賞價值,也是一部研究魏晉南北朝的文化百科全書�！妒勒f新語》的唯一一本全譯本由美國學(xué)者馬瑞志(Richard B. Mather)翻譯,1976年由密尼蘇達(dá)州大學(xué)出版,2002年由密西根大學(xué)漢語研究中心再版。2007年中華書局出版的大中華文庫漢英對照《世說新語》采用了Richard B. Mather的英譯版本�！妒勒f新語》英譯本是《世說新語》對外傳播的重要手段。本文從文化傳播的角度出發(fā),以2007年中華書局出版的大中華文庫漢英對照《世說新語》的英譯版本作為研究對象,通過系統(tǒng)的梳理和深入的研究,在前賢英譯商兌的基礎(chǔ)上,發(fā)現(xiàn)仍有部分詞、句譯文有待商榷,重點(diǎn)對其中出現(xiàn)的英譯問題歸納總結(jié),運(yùn)用現(xiàn)代翻譯理論進(jìn)行剖析,為將來產(chǎn)生以傳播中華文化為目的的流暢傳神的重譯本,提出可操作性的翻譯策略以供參考。 第一部分是引言,主要介紹了《世說新語》的文化價值和《世說新語》英譯本的傳播意義。 第一章是《世說新語》的文本解讀,分兩個章節(jié)進(jìn)行論述。第一節(jié)概括論述了《世說新語》的作者生平及其創(chuàng)作背景。(學(xué)界對《世說新語》的著作權(quán)的歸屬有兩種看法,一種看法認(rèn)為是劉義慶編撰了此書,一種看法是“成于眾手”。本文采用第一種看法。)分析了《世說新語》的成書背景及作品的結(jié)構(gòu)體系。全書獨(dú)具匠心地分為三十六門,三十六門的排列大致遵循從褒義到貶義的次序,作品人物通過在不同門類中的表現(xiàn)呈現(xiàn)給讀者一個豐富的藝術(shù)形象。第二節(jié)對《世說新語》的研究現(xiàn)狀作了大致的勾勒。第三節(jié)介紹《世說新語》在中國文學(xué)史上的地位及英譯價值。它在軼事小說中正式形成了一個被稱為“世說體”的重要體式流派,和對后世“世說體”小說的創(chuàng)作有極其深遠(yuǎn)的影響。 第二章是《世說新語》的英譯現(xiàn)狀和英譯問題研究。第一節(jié)大體概述了現(xiàn)有的《世說新語》的英譯版本和全譯本美國作者馬瑞志(Richard B.Mather)的生平背景。第二節(jié)重點(diǎn)研究大中華文庫漢英對照的《世說新語》馬瑞志的英譯版本的英譯問題。在這一章節(jié)通過解析馬瑞志《世說新語》英譯例證,運(yùn)用翻譯理論分別對文本中的文化術(shù)語、文化詞以及典故成語的英譯問題進(jìn)行了研究、總結(jié)。由于中國與西方社會文化的巨大差異,文化術(shù)語被翻譯成英文時不能全面反映所蘊(yùn)含的文化內(nèi)涵,在英文中找不到一個確切的對應(yīng)詞語；譯本在行文中逐字翻譯的詞匯和語句在英語中沒有對等的象征關(guān)系,造成目的語讀者不能準(zhǔn)確理解文化詞的全部內(nèi)涵；在源遠(yuǎn)流長的文化歷史進(jìn)程中,許多典故和成語已經(jīng)成為積淀了中國文人審美意味的表達(dá)方式,發(fā)揮文學(xué)語言的暗示功能,使之達(dá)到語言高度集中與精練。如果譯文中沒有注釋和背景介紹就會給讀者造成閱讀方面的阻隔。同時列舉分析了由于對詞句理解不當(dāng)、對上下文語境把握不當(dāng)和對文本考釋不足等原因造成的誤譯。 第三章探討了《世說新語》的英譯策略。闡釋了音譯策略、直譯注釋策略、意譯策略、化境策略和語境語用策略的特點(diǎn)和在具體語境中的運(yùn)用。
