[Abstract]:During the 14th century, giant statues of Roland, a figure with partial historical authenticity, appeared in some of Germany's free imperial cities under the Hanseatic trade union system, including from Halberstadt, Quedlin, Brandenburg, Zelbst goes to Hamburg, Brunswick, Bremen and other cities. The statues, 6 to 10 meters high, show a full-body armor knight standing upright, with a sword in his right hand and a coat of arms on his left shoulder. The statues were originally carved out of wood and replaced by stone in the 15 th century.
