傳教士與近代雞公山社會(huì)變遷(1903-1938)

【摘要】:與廬山、莫干山作為傳統(tǒng)文化名山不同,雞公山雖同位近代四大避暑勝地之列,其在近代以前漫長(zhǎng)的歷史長(zhǎng)河中寂寂無(wú)聞,鮮少有人問津。步入近代,傳教士紛沓來(lái)華,足跡幾乎遍布中國(guó)的所有區(qū)域。清末京漢鐵路的通車,為傳教士發(fā)現(xiàn)雞公山提供了歷史契機(jī)。傳教士發(fā)現(xiàn)了雞公山的獨(dú)到之處,借助強(qiáng)大的宣傳攻勢(shì),雞公山的名氣不斷提升,一躍成為與廬山、莫干山、北戴河齊名的近代四大避暑勝地之一。一座原本人煙稀少、鮮為人知的荒山,不斷被賦予諸多的文化內(nèi)涵,赫然以一座文化名山的姿態(tài)卓立于世人眼前,無(wú)論從何種角度而言,傳教士都是促成雞公山名氣匯聚的先驅(qū)。雞公山上的基督教會(huì)數(shù)目繁多,傳教士數(shù)量龐大,涵蓋多個(gè)國(guó)家和地區(qū),而又以美英兩國(guó)為主。傳教士來(lái)山動(dòng)因亦是多元的,既有傳播基督教、避暑消夏的需要,也有強(qiáng)化國(guó)家認(rèn)同、開會(huì)議事的訴求。傳教士人數(shù)呈現(xiàn)出起落不定的周期性規(guī)律,政局及周邊地區(qū)局勢(shì)動(dòng)蕩與否成為影響傳教士人數(shù)變動(dòng)的主要因素。傳教士從自身需求出發(fā),在雞公山開展了林林總總的屬于世俗領(lǐng)域方面的活動(dòng),如設(shè)置自治機(jī)構(gòu)、創(chuàng)辦教會(huì)學(xué)校、營(yíng)造各式西式建筑、創(chuàng)建公共基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施等等。所有這些世俗活動(dòng),都推動(dòng)著雞公山社會(huì)不斷向前變遷、更迭,具體表現(xiàn)為新社會(huì)群體的出現(xiàn)、華人管理機(jī)構(gòu)的形成及演變、中西雜糅式二元社會(huì)的確立等等。
[Abstract]:Different from Lushan, Mogan Mountain is a famous traditional cultural mountain. Although Jigong Mountain is one of the four summer resorts in modern times, it is unknown in the long history before modern times. In modern times, missionaries came to China, almost everywhere in China. The opening of the Beijing-Han Railway in the late Qing Dynasty provided a historical opportunity for missionaries to discover Jigongshan. Missionaries discovered the unique features of Jigongshan, with the help of powerful propaganda offensive, Jigongshan's reputation was constantly rising, and it became one of the four modern summer resorts with Lushan Mountain, Mogan Mountain and Beidaihe. A barren mountain, once sparsely populated and little-known, has been endowed with a great deal of cultural connotations. However, it stands before the eyes of the world with the gesture of a famous cultural mountain, no matter from any angle, Missionaries were pioneers in bringing together the fame of Jigongshan. There are many Christian churches in Jigongshan and a large number of missionaries, covering many countries and regions, and mainly the United States and Britain. The motives for missionaries to come to the mountain are also diverse, both spreading Christianity, summer and summer, as well as strengthening the national identity and meeting for discussion. The number of missionaries shows the periodic law of ups and downs, and the instability of political situation and surrounding areas is the main factor affecting the change of the number of missionaries. Based on their own needs, missionaries carried out various activities in Jigongshan, such as setting up self-governing institutions, establishing church schools, building all kinds of western-style buildings, creating public infrastructure and so on. All these secular activities have promoted the society of Jigongshan to change and change continuously, which is embodied in the emergence of new social groups, the formation and evolution of Chinese administrative institutions, and the establishment of a mixture of Chinese and Western dualistic society and so on.
