留美外交家的跨文化身份與職業(yè)生涯(1911—1949)

2019正值五四運(yùn)動(dòng)的第一百周年。一個(gè)世紀(jì)前,中國(guó)外交家在巴黎和會(huì)上首次對(duì)西方列強(qiáng)說(shuō)“不”,此次外交失敗觸發(fā)了國(guó)內(nèi)爆發(fā)五四運(yùn)動(dòng)。歷經(jīng)百年滄桑,中國(guó)已經(jīng)成為國(guó)際舞臺(tái)上擁有強(qiáng)大影響力的外交大國(guó)。然而,“忘記歷史意味著背叛”,今天我們?nèi)孕杌仡櫮嵌沃袊?guó)人被認(rèn)為是“東亞病夫”,中國(guó)遭受西方列強(qiáng)欺壓的外交歷史。中華民國(guó)時(shí)期是中國(guó)外交的一個(gè)重要?dú)v史階段,期間中國(guó)由列強(qiáng)侵占的半殖民地一躍成為強(qiáng)國(guó)之一,恢復(fù)了晚清嚴(yán)重受損的主權(quán)。這樣的外交成就與一群擁有美國(guó)教育背景的職業(yè)外交家們密不可分,如顧維鈞,顏惠慶,施肇基等。在中國(guó)內(nèi)憂外患的動(dòng)蕩時(shí)期,他們憑借流利的英語(yǔ),在國(guó)際法,國(guó)際政治等方面所受的職業(yè)訓(xùn)練和對(duì)西方外交的熟悉,在國(guó)際舞臺(tái)上嶄露頭角。然而,外交官的職業(yè)和西化的舉止使公眾對(duì)他們的品格產(chǎn)生懷疑,對(duì)他們的歷史評(píng)價(jià)也是褒貶不一。他們常常被抨擊為“賣國(guó)賊”,或淪為外交失敗的替罪羊?紤]到這一歷史時(shí)期的重要性,他們的群體身份和個(gè)體差異是一個(gè)值得研究的課題。再者,研究中國(guó)處在不利地位時(shí)期的外交實(shí)踐能夠給新時(shí)期的中國(guó)外交家們以啟示。因此,本文旨在研究擁有留美背景的中國(guó)外交家的跨文化身份,并探索影響其跨文化身份形成的...
