[Abstract]:Professor S.T. Yau gave a speech at Tsinghua University in 2010 entitled "A comparison between Chinese and Japanese Mathematical Talent training before and after the Meiji Restoration and World War II." In his speech, Professor Chiu contrasted the development of mathematics between China and Japan from the end of the 19th century to the early 20th century, especially referring to two Japanese mathematicians, one of whom was Dali Kikuchi and the other was Yotaro Fujili. Professor Qiu pointed out that not only did Kuchi Dalu and others bring western mathematical theories back to Japan, but also Western academic ethos and academic traditions were brought into Japan. Professor Chiu also pointed out that the rapid development of modern mathematics in Japan is closely related to the importance attached by the Meiji New Government to mathematics and its talents.
